Questions, answered.

Everything landlords, property managers and operators ask us about smart meters, prepaid electricity and the Splinergy platform.

Getting started

What is Splinergy?

Splinergy is a smart energy management platform from ID IoT Engineering Solutions. It combines 4G / Wi-Fi smart meters and breakers with a web platform for live monitoring, automated tenant billing, online payments and remote power control.

Does Splinergy replace my TNB meter?

No. Splinergy meters are sub-meters installed after your TNB meter, inside your own distribution boards. You still pay TNB for the building's total usage; Splinergy measures and bills each room, unit or circuit behind it.

Can I use Splinergy just for monitoring, without billing tenants?

Yes. You can use Splinergy purely for monitoring: live voltage, current, power and kWh with usage history, for cost allocation between departments, energy audits or finding waste.

Billing & payments

How does prepaid electricity work?

Each meter has its own balance. Tenants top up, the balance drops as electricity is used, and supply cuts off automatically when it reaches zero. Once the tenant has topped up, you switch the power back on remotely from the platform, with no site visit needed.

How do tenants pay, and what are the fees?

With the optional built-in payment gateway, tenants pay by Visa, Mastercard, FPX online banking, DuitNow or e-wallets including Touch 'n Go, GrabPay, ShopeePay, WeChat Pay and Alipay. A 5% payment fee applies to all payment methods and is deducted from each top-up, so a RM 100 top-up adds RM 95 to the tenant's balance. The money goes to the property owner's bank account.

Do I have to use the online payment gateway?

No. The payment gateway is optional. You can collect payment from tenants your own way, top up their meters yourself in the platform, or switch a tenant's power off and on manually. The 5% payment fee only applies to top-ups made through the gateway.

Is there a contract?

Yes. The platform subscription is a 12-month contract, paid upfront, at RM 10 per meter per month.

What happens if the subscription is not renewed?

Each meter keeps its last power state, so supply stays on or off as it was. Access to the portal and system is paused until the subscription is renewed.

Can I set my own electricity rate?

Yes. The rate per kWh is set per meter in the platform, so different rooms or units can have different rates.

How much does the Splinergy platform cost?

The Splinergy platform is RM 10 per meter per month, on a 12-month contract paid upfront (RM 120 per meter per year). On the PSNA-6, every module counts as one meter, including the gateway. Hardware is a one-time purchase from RM 130, and 4G meters need a data plan from RM 35 per year. For large sites, contact us for custom pricing.

Hardware & installation

Which meter do I need?

Single-phase meters suit individual rooms, apartments and small shops. Three-phase meters suit shoplots, workshops and sub-mains. Choose DIN-rail models for distribution boards and wall-mounted models for meter boards. Not sure? Send us a photo of your distribution board and we'll recommend one.

What is the difference between a smart meter and the PSNA-6 breaker?

Smart meters measure usage, handle billing and can switch supply on or off. The PSNA-6 modular breaker adds breaker-grade protection on each circuit (residual-current/leakage, over-voltage and under-voltage trip) with thresholds set from the cloud.

Who installs the meters?

Meters are installed inside the distribution board. Our team can install them for you, or your own registered electrician or contractor can do it. Tell us about your site and we'll advise on the right setup.

Connectivity

Should I choose 4G or Wi-Fi meters?

Choose Wi-Fi if the building has stable Wi-Fi reaching every distribution board: the hardware costs less and there is no data plan. Choose 4G where Wi-Fi is weak or unavailable, such as basements, meter rooms and remote sites.

Do 4G meters need a SIM card or data plan?

Yes, each 4G device needs a data plan. Our M2M data plans start from RM 35 per SIM per year, and the SIM card is free with any plan.
